JANUARY 2011 CATEGORIES
BRUSCHETTA AND CROSTINI
How do you like to dress up this party-food
favorite? Start by taking a baguette-style loaf of French bread cut in thin slices,
flavor the slices with oil, then toast them. Then go a step further and add a
flavorful topping like fresh fruit and crumbled cheese to the little toasts. Or, start
with toasted rye bread or pumpernickel slices and add a seafood or meat spread,
cheese, or veggie topping to be served as a savory appetizer.
WEEKNIGHT VEGETARIAN
Send us your most creative meatless main dish that
can be made in 30 minutes or less. Need some suggestions? Possible ideas include
a vegetable broth-based soup full of tofu cubes and vegetables, veggie patties made
with cooked beans and grains, or a tempeh stir-fry served over brown rice or lentils
with a sprinkling of nuts. Or how about a green salad with edamame and a peanut-
soy-based dressing? Get creative and send us your best vegetarian main dish.
